Mother Of Gary Harris Played In WNBA

Aug 17, 2011 10:34 AM

Gary Harris is one of the top incoming recruits for the class of 2012.

His mother Joy was a former All-American at Purdue who played in the WNBA. She also worked as an assistant coach at Middle Tennessee State, Cincinnati and IUPUI after her playing career.

Harris is considering Indiana, Michigan State, Purdue, Louisville and Notre Dame.

Harris has more than 4,500 followers on Twitter and is constantly asked which school he will choose, something his parents actively help with.

"There are a lot of people out there who are noticing what I say," said Harris. "My parents have done a good job monitoring me and telling me to watch what I post."

There are also a lot of rumors about his decision that are baseless.

"Most of it's not worth diffusing," Joy said. "The people putting that stuff out there . . . we don't know them. I heard once that he was going to Purdue because I had a Purdue shirt on; never mind that I graduated from Purdue. Another time I heard I was seen in an IU shirt because Gary begged me to wear one. I'm not sure where the stuff comes from."

Derek Willis Could Be Having Second Thoughts On Purdue Commitment

Aug 5, 2011 1:24 PM

Derek Willis, a junior commit to Purdue, posted on his Facebook page Thursday that he had backed off his commitment to Purdue and would open up the recruiting process. Willis saw his stock rise significantly during the spring and it’s expected that both Kentucky and Louisville would enter the picture.

When contacted Thursday night, Willis’ father, Del Willis, said his son is still committed to Purdue and that there would be some clarification to the situation by Sunday.

Willis is an ESPN Top-20 recruit in the 2013 incoming class.
